Lottery for New School-Based PreK Slots

This is Zach McLaughlin Superintendent of Schools.  I hope you are all enjoying the summer and finding some much-needed family time and rest.

I'm reaching out to you today to announce the opening of the Springfield School District early education program.  This program has been in development for the past 3 years and will open its doors on Tuesday, September 7th with a plan of enrolling 20 children.

The classroom will serve children ages: 3, 4 & 5.   To be eligible the student must be 3 by September 1st.   As the program is part of the school district it will follow the same calendar and schedule as Elm Hill School.  The program hours will be from 9 am -3:30 pm with drop-off starting at 8:30 am.  It will be located on its own floor at the Howard Dean Education Center.

Enrollment will be open starting, Monday, July 19th, and concluding on Friday, July 30th.  Due to only having 20 slots this first year, we will be using a lottery system to ensure fair enrollment.  Forms are available on our website, at the central office, or at the Springfield Town Library. If you need assistance with the forms our Early Education Coordinator, Rachel Hunter, and the Town Library staff are available to help.  Families will be informed of lottery outcomes in the first week of August.

We are excited to bring another option to families in the Springfield School District and complement the high-quality programs already existing within our community.

If you have any questions please contact Rachel Hunter at 802-885-1150.
